Description

Craft a vibrant, zesty Spicy Jalapeño Margarita with smooth tequila, fresh lime, and a perfect spicy kick. Easy to make, unforgettable flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium jalapeño, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup (240ml) Blanco Tequila or Reposado Tequila
  • 2 ounces (60ml) jalapeño-infused tequila
  • 1 ounce (30ml) fresh lime juice
  • ¾ ounce (22ml) orange liqueur
  • ½ ounce (15ml) agave nectar or simple syrup
  • Ice
  • Lime wedges or slices
  • Thinly sliced jalapeño rounds
  • Kosher salt or Tajín seasoning

Instructions

1. Prepare the Jalapeño: Carefully slice one medium jalapeño into thin rounds. If you prefer a milder heat in your Spicy Jalapeño Margarita, you can remove some or all of the seeds and white membrane. For a bolder kick, leave them in!

2. Combine with Tequila: Place the sliced jalapeño into a clean, airtight jar or bottle. Pour 1 cup of Blanco or Reposado tequila over the jalapeños.

3. Infuse: Seal the jar and give it a gentle shake. Store it in a cool, dark place (like your pantry or fridge) for at least 2 hours, or up to 24 hours. The longer it infuses, the spicier your tequila will become. Taste a tiny bit after 2 hours to gauge the heat for your perfect Spicy Jalapeño Margarita.

4. Strain: Once your desired spice level is reached, strain the tequila through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bottle or jar, discarding the jalapeño slices. Your infused tequila is now ready!

5. Prepare Your Glass: Pour a thin layer of kosher salt or Tajín seasoning onto a small plate. Take a lime wedge and rub it around the rim of your margarita or rocks glass. Gently dip the rim into the salt or Tajín, twisting slightly to get an even coating. Set aside your rimmed glass.

6. Combine Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 ounces of your homemade jalapeño-infused tequila, 1 ounce of fresh lime juice, ¾ ounce of orange liqueur, and ½ ounce of agave nectar or simple syrup.

7. Add Ice: Fill the cocktail shaker about two-thirds full with fresh ice.

8. Shake It Up!: Secure the lid tightly on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. You want the outside of the shaker to feel really cold and frosty. This chills the drink thoroughly and blends all the flavors perfectly for your Spicy Jalapeño Margarita.

9. Strain and Serve: Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice. Remove the lid from the shaker and strain the chilled Spicy Jalapeño Margarita mixture into your glass.

10. Garnish: Garnish with a fresh lime wedge or wheel and a few thin slices of jalapeño for a beautiful presentation and an extra aromatic kick. Enjoy your perfectly crafted Spicy Jalapeño Margarita right away!

Notes

Fresh lime juice is crucial. Taste and adjust spice/sweetness. Chill glasses for best results. Quality tequila makes a difference. Can substitute agave with simple syrup or honey syrup. Experiment with serrano or poblano peppers for different heat. Consider fruit (pineapple, mango, cucumber), mezcal, or herbs (cilantro, basil) for variations. This recipe makes one cocktail; the infused tequila base can make up to 8 cocktails.
