Description
Craft a vibrant, refreshing strawberry margarita recipe with fresh ingredients. This easy-to-follow guide ensures a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and spirited for any celebration.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Margarita salt or kosher salt
- 2–3 lime wedges
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled
- 1 cup (8 oz) Blanco tequila
- 2/3 cup (5.3 oz) fresh lime juice
- 1/3 cup (2.7 oz) honey or agave nectar
- 1/4 cup (2 oz) triple sec or Cointreau
- Ice cubes
Instructions
1. Prepare Your Margarita Glasses: Grab a shallow dish wider than your drinking glasses. Pour margarita salt or kosher salt into it, creating a layer about 1/4-inch deep. Take a fresh lime wedge and rub it all around the rim of each margarita glass, ensuring the lime juice fully coats the top edge. Immediately turn each glass upside down and dip its rim into the salt, gently twisting to get an even coating. Set the rimmed glasses aside.
2. Blend Your Strawberry Margarita Mixture: Add your hulled fresh strawberries to a high-speed blender. Pour in the tequila, fresh lime juice, honey (or agave nectar), and triple sec (or Cointreau). Secure the blender lid firmly. Blend everything until the mixture is completely smooth with no strawberry chunks. Let the blended mixture rest in the blender for about 3 minutes to allow foam to settle. Gently skim off any foam from the top. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness with more honey/sweetener or lime juice as desired.
3. Serve Your Strawberry Margaritas: Pick up your beautifully rimmed margarita glasses. Fill each glass about halfway with fresh ice cubes. Carefully pour the smooth, red strawberry margarita mixture into each glass over the ice. Garnish each drink with a fresh lime wedge or a whole strawberry on the rim. Serve immediately.
Notes
Fresh vs. Frozen Strawberries: While fresh, ripe strawberries are ideal, frozen sliced strawberries (without added sugar) can be used. If using frozen, you might need less ice for blending.
Tequila Choice: Blanco (silver) tequila is recommended for a clean, crisp flavor that lets the strawberry shine. Reposado can work for a slightly oakier note, but avoid Añejo.
Sweetener Options: Honey or agave nectar are natural choices. Simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heated and cooled) can also be used.
Orange Liqueur: Triple Sec is widely available. Cointreau or Grand Marnier offer a smoother, more complex flavor.
Recipe Variations: Can be made frozen by adding 1-2 cups of ice to the blender. For spicy, muddle jalapeño slices. For herbal notes, add fresh basil or mint. A non-alcoholic mocktail version can be made by omitting tequila and triple sec, adding orange juice or syrup.
Chilling Ingredients: Chill tequila, triple sec, and lime juice before blending to keep the margarita colder longer.
